Academic Advising Information

You are required to be advised every term prior to registration for the following semester. During the advising conference your assigned advisor will help plan your schedule for the next term. The advisor will assist you in planning your academic program and in making you aware of departmental, College, and University requirements, policies, and procedures. The advisor is there to help you make appropriate academic choices, but your advisor is not responsible for choices you make. You must keep track of courses you need for graduation, because the responsibility for meeting degree requirements is yours, not your advisor’s. Student may access advising information through ULink.

In order to have successful advising, keep in mind the following points:

  •   Get to know your advisor and take the initiative to seek help when needed.

  •   Familiarize yourself with the College of Business section in the Undergraduate Bulletin.

  •   Schedule an appointment with your advisor for preregistration advising.

  •   Have a tentative schedule prepared prior to your preregistration advising appointment.

Here are some rules that may help in special cases:

BADM 100 - Students with more than 30 hours may substitute any two or three-hour course with a C or better.

BSAT 205 Computer Credit Exam - The BSAT Department administers the exam twice each fall and spring semester, the week before classes start and the first week of classes. Click here for more information on this exam.

Change of Major - Junior Division students initiate the process in Lee Hall and Upper Division business students initiate the process in the Dean's Office.

Academic Amnesty - After being out of school (any institution) for three years, in the first returning semester a student may appeal for Academic Amnesty. College-level work at an earlier date will remain on the record but not part of the student's GPA.

Advanced Placement Exams - With required ACT scores, students may take exams to qualify for advanced placement credit. If students participated in the College Board's Advanced Placement (AP) examinations in high school, records should be sent to the UL Lafayette Office of Admissions.

Audits - Business students may not audit required business courses. Auditing nonbusiness courses requires permission of the student's dean; and dean, department head, and instructor of the course.

These points apply to all students:

Upper Division - Only Upper Division students are eligible to take 300/400 business courses, excluding ECON 300. Minimum requirements for business students in the 2001-2003 Bulletin or later include
· C in ENGL 102
· C in MATH 100 or 105
· C in ACCT 201
· C in ECON 201 or 202
· C in BSAT 205 or credit exam
· 2.25 GPA

Career Services - Students should register with the Career Services by the second semester of their junior year.
