Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) State Director, Mary Lynn Wilkerson is proud to announce that Mark Galyean, Center Director of LSBDC at UL-Lafayette, was named the 2009 Louisiana State Star. Galyean was honored at an awards reception in Orlando, Florida on September 17, 2009, held in conjunction with the ASBDC 29th Annual Conference. The reception recognized the 2009 State Stars from across the nation.
"I'm very humbled by the honor. I credit much of my success to the hard work and dedication of my team," said Galyean. "Mark is an exceptional leader," praised Wilkerson. "His LSBDC on the campus of UL-Lafayette consistently exceeds their economic and performance goals. Under Mark's leadership, LSBDC at UL-Lafayette has become a center of excellence." Galyean was chosen as the State Star by a committee of his peers, who recognized his accomplishments in taking his LSBDC center to the next level. The committee noted his teamwork with other centers and agencies in implementing innovative programs, his outreach to businesses and community leaders, and his center's numerous awards. Recently, the U.S. Small Business Administration, Louisiana District, honored LSBDC at UL-Lafayette with the 2009 Small Business Development Center Service Excellence and Innovation Center Award. Galyean and his team accepted the award this May at the Governor's Mansion. Before joining the LSBDC network, Galyean worked as a business partner and national sales manager for a Louisiana-based, large-format printing and Super-Graphics display company. He uses his private sector, managerial and business experience to help others. "It's a privilege and an honor to serve the Acadiana business community. Our talented and diverse team of LSBDC consultants can bring to bear the resources of the UL-Lafayette, Louisiana Economic Development, and the U.S. Small Business Administration to work for area entrepreneurs and small business owners," said Galyean. In Lafayette, LSBDC partners with Louisiana Economic Development, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and UL-Lafayette to provide business consulting to entrepreneurs and small business owners at no cost. The center also provides low-cost business training. These services are aimed at helping small businesses start, grow, and expand. According to an independent economic impact study, LSBDC clients experience a 29 percent greater increase in sales and a 16 percent greater increase in employment levels as compared to the average Louisiana business.
