During the recent Fall Break, several students from Dr. Lise Anne Slatten’s Management 490 – Strategic Management class participated in the United Way of Acadiana Day of Literacy.
Fourteen students participated and were part of a group of 100 volunteers who were mobilized on October 1st to fourteen different Head Start centers throughout Acadiana in support of the Day of Literacy. The UL students spent time at the Early Head Start center located at Louisiana Technical College in Lafayette reading “The Little Engine That Could”. The reading activity allowed the student volunteers to model good reading practices and engage the young children in an enrichment activity. At the conclusion of the activity copies of the book were donated to the reading library at the school.
The annul Day of Literacy activity is a part of the United Way “Volunteers Read United” effort, a reading initiative that increases awareness of the importance of early childhood reading and early language literacy development.
