Dr. Linus Wilson wrote a paper that was used in a New York Times article which appeared on the front page of the that paper's business section on Tuesday, May 19, 2009.

He was also quoted in the article and did some extra analysis for the story.  Dr. Wilson's paper “Valuing the First Negotiated Repurchase of the TARP Warrants” found that the fair market value of the warrants was $1.5 to $6.9 million.  Unfortunately, the U.S. Treasury accepted a price of $1.2 million.  That was a good deal for the shareholders of the bank, Old National Bancorp (ticker: ONB), that was buying back the warrants.  Yet, the U.S. taxpayers probably could have done better if the U.S. Treasury sold those warrants to third party investors.  This story has been reported on by other news outlets including Associated Press and several internet blogs.
